Gray McQuarrie
I am a chemical engineer by training and worked in the printed circuit board field for many decades. It was highly stressful. One of my outlets to relieve the stress was photography. I was more or less a point and shoot photographer when I started as a young man, but then I started getting involved with other photographers. I learned about composition, and today I am a full fledged photographer.
I have always found serenity in the craft of photography, but more importantly a lasting solace and contentment in the resulting imaging, especially printed images. I love soulful images be them landscapes, street, architecture, travel, or portrait. Morning, noon and night too! I love detail and subtle changes in color. The subject is important of course, but so also is a bright light in a door that is small, but distinct and clear, way in the background. It’s those subtle little details, the little treat in an image, that causes me to return again and again, and hear the shutter click, as another image is stored on my memory card.
The images you see here, reflect what I find to be most calming and pleasing for me. They are also places I have been where I have treasured the experiences and the people in my travels. And the travel in combination with sharing the images, especially in printed form, allows me to build special bonds with people, to communicate with others, and connect. It is the end result of this process; travel, photos, and sharing; that I enjoy most, because of the bonds that are formed, new friends that are found, and the connection to humanity. This is what drives my passion. And this is what I am sharing with you here at Grayrock’s Visual Adventures.
